Alexis Sanchez transfer saga seems to have taken a new turn with Man United set to make a last-ditch bid to hijack Man City’s move for the Chilean from Arsenal, according to the Daily Mail.
United are hoping to get one over their rivals Man City as they look to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal, right under City’s nose, with a £25 million bid and Henrikh Mhkitaryan as a sweetener in the deal.
Man City are reported to have initially offered £20 million while the Gunners set their asking price at £35 million, United have now made a bid closer to the asking price than City, and are willing to pay more than the £250,000 a week salary that Pep Guardiola’s side are offering.
Mourinho is set to also allow Mhkitaryan who is out of favor at Old Trafford move the other way to both tempt the Gunners with a ready replacement and ease their own wage budget.
It is believed that City still have the upper hand in this battle as the Chilean seems to be uninterested in money at the moment, and is almost certainly guaranteed of a league title this season if he moves to the Etihad, with Pep’s side 15 points clear at the top.
Man United has been in desperate need of a wide attacker, and have been linked with Antoine Greizmann and Ivan Persic in the past, and their pursuit of the latter last summer was well documented, so it still comes as a surprise as to why they waited so long to make an approach for Alexis Sanchez whom they tracked when he moved to Barcelona from Udinese and when he moved to Arsenal from Barcelona.
