Alexis Sanchez will wear Manchester United‘s iconic No.7 shirt if he completes his move to Old Trafford, according to reports in Chile.
Jose Mourinho‘s side lead the race to sign the 29-year-old as Manchester City has ended their interest in the Chilean international due to Arsenal‘s £35 million asking price. City are also unwilling to pay the extra fees which have been demanded by Sanchez’s representatives.
United have reportedly offered Sanchez the chance to become the Premier League’s highest-paid player and are prepared to give a £30m transfer fee to Arsenal. According to El Mercurio, United are close to signing Sanchez, and the club will offer the forward their vacant No.7 shirt once he joins.
The number, which has been worn by several United greats including George Best, Eric Cantona, David Beckham and Cristiano Ronaldo, has been vacant since Memphis Depay left to join Lyon nearly a year ago.
