Manchester United have agreed to trigger the one-year extension clause in Luke Shaw’s contract with the club, according to Manchester Evening Standard.
The 22-year-old’s current contract was due to expire in the summer, however, the trigger means that now extends to 2019.
Shaw has struggled for game time at Old Trafford with reports that he had fallen out with manager Jose Mourinho, who had been hoping to sign a new left-back.
Senior United sources say Shaw is ‘working hard’ and club staff remain hopeful he can regain the form he showed at the start of 2015-16, when his auspicious run cruelly ended with a broken leg at PSV Eindhoven in mid-September.
Manchester United have now cooled their interest in signing a new left-back after Shaw’s upturn in ‘attitude and application’, say MEN. Mourinho had been pushing for the club to bring in a new full-back, targeting a number of different players.
